My door into housing advocacy wasn’t accidental—it was forged through enterprise compliance mastery, grounded execution, and personal survival.
When automated, debt-based algorithm screening biases threatened my own family’s housing security, I didn’t back down. I stood on California’s SB 267 to protect my children, verify our mixed income—spanning state disability, public assistance, and my boutique baking business—and secure our keys. I learned firsthand that the traditional pass/fail screening loop is fundamentally broken, blind to human reality, and entirely detached from resident truth.
Entering the housing sector, I spent years deep in the trenches of complex regulatory systems and large-scale residential operations. I was the specialist called in to untangle broken audit trails, challenge arbitrary denials, and build operational standards from the ground up.
Inside those systems, I witnessed a glaring divide: while institutions prioritized automated algorithms and bottom-line metrics, qualified, hard-working residents were left stranded without an advocate or true duty of care. I watched the human element get stripped away in favor of third-party software that measures old debt rather than rental integrity.
You cannot restore dignity to a broken system by answering to it. So, I stepped outside the corporate walls to advocate directly for the people.
Why I Created The Safe Haven Initiative
Housing is the foundation of human dignity. After nearly a decade inside affordable housing operations and compliance frameworks, I shifted my focus to where it matters most: directly advocating for families.
The Safe Haven Initiative was built to ensure that responsible residents who work, pay their bills, and respect their spaces are not locked out of homes by arbitrary third-party algorithms. We do not sell credit repair or quick fixes. We stand on California code, hold property providers accountable, and defend performers.
The Safe Haven Housing Initiative replaces automated gatekeeping with transparent human evaluation. Through our 100-Point Resident Stewardship Rubric, we prove that verified rental payment history, stable income, and household integrity tell the true story of a home. We don’t ask providers to skip background reviews; we say look at the whole picture, utilize a performance-based stewardship standard, and respect the resident.
We cannot call ourselves housing professionals while turning away qualified individuals simply because an algorithm refuses to do a human duty of care. I am here to educate, to train, and to install absolute accountability for everyone involved.
